Day-to-day worries

Posted by Paul on November 29, 2009

pink_panther_blogIt’s been about 4 and a half months now since Max was born, but it does seem like forever. It’s difficult to imagine life without him around.

And it’s sometimes difficult to live with him around, because it’s difficult to stop some worries.

It’s a cliched thing but I still catch myself moving in close to his crib, holding my breath and listening to hear his own sounds of breathing. Or if I can’t hear him for whatever reason I gingerly lay a hand on his chest, feeling it rise and fall.

My fears dismissed I then usually turn the attempt to leave the bedroom without waking him into some sort of Inspector Clouseau series of pratfalls as my arm catches the crib, or I stumble over something on the floor, or walk into a bed, or go to grab something and end up juggling with it in a mildly impressive way!

Shortly after all this clumsiness he wakes up – and then I get concerned that he isn’t sleeping enough.

Vicious Circle anyone?

iPhone Parenting Apps

Posted by Paul on November 24, 2009

iphone-baby-clothesI’m a geek. I am also now a father. Before the birth I purchased an app to keep track of how far we were in the pregnancy, and also keep our list of potential names. Since Max was born I have been using the iPhone even more to help me do and remember things – here are a list of my favourite 8 apps (in no particular order).

– Things
I’ve become a big of David Allen’s GTD philosophy but always fell down on the list-keeping activity as I never previously had something that was always on my person, and that I could easily manipulate the info. Things is the answer to my problems – it’s on my iphone, and on my mac, it syncs and allows me to see my tasks in numerous ways. Now I just have to find the time to do them….

– eBay Mobile
We had quite a few baby things given to us when Max was born, but as fast as he grows so do his needs and requirements, so we are always on the look out for the next thing for him to sit in, play with, etc. eBay Mobile puts all those searches and the chance to bid in my pocket. BuggySnuggle

Posted by Paul on November 17, 2009

large_buggysnuggle_superduper_starsredThis is the first in a series of posts looking at products we saw at the Baby Show 2009 that we were interested in – though didn’t necessarily purchase at the time – I am the Credit Crunch Dad after all!!

—————-

The BuggySnuggle looked like a great product – especially at this time of year as the days get colder! The high quality 100% fleece is designed to fit into your buggy and give your child a warm and fashionable Snuggle!

We didn’t purchase one as at the time of the show it wasn’t so much of an issue and our little one is quite a warm boy anyway. Now however we are definitely considering a purchase – and I’ve just noticed that they have free P&P until 21st December.

If we get around to choosing from one of the designs and styles then I’ll give it a proper review and let you know whether it’s worth dishing out the dosh for!

Work/Money Issues

Posted by Paul on November 15, 2009

iStock_000005832518XSmallSo here I am again, keeping busy doing various bits and pieces of work here and there, some that will be paid work, other that is unpaid but will hopefully build to something better. But the money part isn’t coming.

It is understandable considering where I am at with the paid work, but it’s not a good thing as it adds to my stress. Baby and mother have had a cold recently with mother suffering worst and so I have been stepping up to do more around the house. Which means that other things have slipped, just when they shouldn’t be.

As I mentioned on Twitter earlier this week, I am feeling mildly stressed with so many projects on the go, exasperated by the lack of moolah at the end of the day.

I’m not entirely sure where I am going with this piece, I think that it is just another demonstration of how it is still quite tough going for us, but that we ain’t giving up!

And No, that isn’t me in the pic!
