We didn’t even have to ask – the advice was flung at us from left, right and centre. Sometimes the advice would be given to us more than once if we foolishly failed to follow it the first time.

I’ve never been good at receiving advice, especially when it has a chance of touching any part of my ego – in this case my parental skills, which I am only just developing of course. So nearly all of the advice went into the garbage can in my mind. Which is a pity because 6 months down the line we see that we should have followed some of the advice.

What advice should you have listened to?

And one of the problems is that I do a lot of things. Probably too much but that is how I’ve always been. Always having ideas and starting on them – whether I ended up finishing them is a completely different matter and worthy of a much longer discussion.

But it’s probably worth taking a look at what I am doing now, partly to shock myself and partly so that you can check out other stuff I am doing,

Redevelopment of a website for 1 client
Creation of a new site for 1 client
I’ve just finished redeveloping another site for a client
A large project for development of numerous web-based tools for a client

CreditCrunchDad.co.uk
LifeRiot.co.uk – this is my series of websites that includes;
GamesRiot.co.uk
LaughRiot.co.uk
MovieRiot.co.uk
MusicRiot.co.uk
StageRiot.co.uk
and two new ones coming soon.
Also Liferiot.co.uk/twitterviews where do the occasional twitter interview.

I am also working on two new projects, one with one of my brothers which is due to launch in early 2010, and the other is with a friend and has a launch date of March next year.

I wonder sometimes why I feel knackered and my to-do list only ever seems to grow….

Oh yeah, and I am a new father…

One of the so-called benefits of BT Vision is that you can get a load of TV shows on demand. And of course in the run-up to Christmas they have lined up a load of Christmas specials from over the years. The first bundle is 17 episodes of Only Fools and Horses.

Now I am a sucker for comedy, and this is a chance to re-evaluate the series that was such a huge hit but ended with a few dodgy episodes that have soured most peoples memories.

As they play in the background they evoke memories of childhood when the show and its specials were a thing to be anticipated and cherished. I distinctly remember watching the two part 1991 special when the family went to Miami at a schoolfriends house, there must have been a big video scheduling issue at our house, with two older brothers there was always a fight over something!

Of course the great beauty of John Sullivan’s sitcom, and the secret of most great British sitcoms, is the bringing to life of the dreamer who never succeeds but always keeps on trying. Del-boy’s “this time next year, we’ll be millionaires” was the basis of his dreams, when he succeeded the story should have ended.

As my son has just dribbled and wiggled past his first 5 months, this old sit-com has gotten me thinking. Now I have so much more responsibility, and so many more dreams, what do I want to be “this time next year”. Maybe it’s time for the sitcom to come to an end.

Luvvly Jubbly.

Let’s get it out of the way now – I am a sentimental kind of guy. Especially at Christmas. I get excited about the release of the Christmas edition of the Radio Times for goodness sake – it brings back memories of my younger self walking our first dog down the road to buy the Christmas Radio Times and the TV Times. No I didn’t just like to buy a number of magazines, those were the days when the RT only listed BBC stuff, and TT had the other channels – I am that old!

And this year I was able to make that purchase while out for a walk with my 4-month old – child not dog.

So the Dad part of CreditCrunchDad is all good, and this Christmas season will, I am sure, bring about it’s own new special memories.

However the CreditCrunch bit isn’t so heart-warming. Money is not just “too tight to mention”, it is under investigation after reports of suffocation!

All told money isn’t as important as many other aspects of life, but when it is absent it does make its lack of presence felt.

This morning it was a series of horrible-looking coughs, turning his face a little red each time, sometimes building up to something approaching a choking fit.

We continue to chuck medicine down his throat as given by the doctor last week, so far without any discernible difference.

Yesterday seemed to turn into a day of little work, between looking after him, doing some housework and putting a load of things on eBay under instructions from the other half.

Today needs to be more productive. Wish me luck!
